April 18, 2017 - Option consommateurs files suit against Confort Illimité and two finance companies

Montreal, April 18, 2017 - Option consommateurs has just filed complaints with Office de la protection du consommateur against Confort Illimité as well as two financing companies, Crelogix Acceptance Corporation and LendCare Capital inc.

Over the past few weeks, Option consommateurs has been receiving an unusually high number of inquiries about Confort Illimitéa mobile retailer officially operating in the Montreal, Gatineau, Saguenay, Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec City and Abitibi regions. Some requests also came from the Gaspé Peninsula.

According to consumers who contacted the organization, Confort Illimité claimed they would save energy by installing a heat pump with certain features. It also promised that they would be eligible for a tax credit. This turned out to be false. A number of consumers also complained that they had paid an inflated price, sometimes more than double the actual value of the equipment sold. Finally, according to Option consommateurs, the company's contracts contain a number of formal defects, notably the absence of information required under Article 58 of the Consumer Protection Act. Consumer Protection Act.

Consumers who have agreed to do business with Confort Illimité are so dissatisfied with the services they have received that they have created a Facebook group. In particular, they complain about misrepresentations regarding energy savings, the malfunctioning of installed equipment, the nature of the equipment installed and the terms and conditions of the matching credit contract - debit dates, free periods not respected, etc. They also complain about not having received certain goods and services covered by the contract. They also complain of not having received certain goods and services covered by the contract.

The vast majority of complainants had their purchase financed by one of the lenders suggested by Confort Illimité, namely Crelogix Acceptance Corporation and LendCare Capital inc. They attempted to exercise their recourse to resolution by operation of law, as provided for in section 62 of the Consumer Protection Act. The lenders refused to refund the sums paid or ignored their requests. In some cases, they also threatened to damage their credit rating if they stopped making payments.

Recently, Confort Illimité stopped taking calls from consumers. The company reportedly closed its doors, only to resume operations shortly afterwards. In the meantime, it would have changed its telephone number.

Option consommateurs invites those affected by Confort Illimité to file a complaint with the Office de la protection du consommateur. She also urges all consumers to be cautious when doing business with a traveling merchant. It's important to check the background of the merchant you're dealing with, and not to sign anything in haste.
