Option consommateurs vs Slingo
In particular, Option consommateurs criticizes Loto-Québec for making false or misleading representations about the Big Money Slingo online game, suggesting that it is a game in which the awarding of prizes is determined by chance (number generator), when in fact it is a game in which the outcome is predetermined (like a scratch card game).
What is she accused of ?
On November 11, 2016, Option consommateurs and Mr. Denis Dagenais filed an application for authorization to institute a class action against the Société des loteries du Québec (Loto-Québec).
The purpose of the class action is to obtain for members a sum equivalent to the total of their bets, less the prizes paid out in cash (with the exception of free bets) as well as the payment of punitive damages.
Option consommateurs and Mr. Dagenais are represented by Sylvestre Painchaud et associés.
Who are the members ?
“All persons who have entered into a gaming contract for consideration with the defendant to play the online version of the Slingo game with number generator since May 30, 2016.”
It should be noted that this class action only targets the internet version of the Big Money Slingo game and does not target the “scratchers” type game tickets that are sold on newsstands or in shops.
Where are we now ?
On September 26, 2017, the Superior Court authorized this collective action. If you are a member of this collective action, your inclusion is automatic and you don't have to take any steps.
