Option consommateurs c. Volkswagen
Description
On September 22, 2015, Mr. François Grondin filed an application for authorization to exercise a class action against Volkswagen and Audi following revelations concerning the anti-pollution system. On May 30, 2016, the Superior Court allowed Option consommateurs to act as plaintiff in this case.
Volkswagen and Audi are accused, among other things, of having marketed motor vehicles that contravene environmental standards for pollutant gas emissions, and of having equipped these vehicles with stealth software to thwart environmental test results. The vehicles are powered by 2.0 L or 3.0 L TDI diesel engines.
The defendants are also accused of overlooking an important fact when they failed to inform consumers that these vehicles did not comply with environmental regulations.
One of the aims of class action is to compensate group members for the loss in value of their vehicles as a result of this latent defect.
Option consommateurs and Mr. Grondin are represented by the firm Belleau Lapointe.
