Stroh Brewery

On April 14, 2009, Option consommateurs was authorized by the court to discontinue the class action against Compagnie Brasserie Stroh (Québec) Ltée.

Description

On October 16, 2002, we filed a motion for authorization to institute a class action against the Stroh brewery. This brewery produced, among others, Old Milwaukee, Stroh and Colt 45 beers. Between April 1999 and April 2000, the Stroh brewery forced Quebec retailers to sell its beers at the price it had previously set. No one could offer consumers discounts on Stroh products. This practice, which contravened the Competition Act, caused Quebec consumers to overpay by thousands of dollars. The class action aims to compensate them.
