Dell Inspiron 5150

In January 2007, we filed a class action lawsuit against Dell Computer regarding manufacturing defects in the Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop.

Dell is being sued for failing to comply with the legal guarantee set out in the Consumer Protection Act, under which a company is obliged to offer goods whose quality and durability are proportionate to the price paid.

Our members

Any individual or legal entity (company) with fewer than (50) employees who has purchased a Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop and resides in Quebec.

Where we are

An agreement has been reached. You had until December 31, 2007 to benefit from a warranty extension for an "Eligible Repair" or to request reimbursement for an "Eligible Repair" already carried out.

The " Eligible Repairs " covered by this extended warranty were as follows:

  • Repairs to resolve message code M1004 due to a thermal problem;
  • Replacement of heat sinks;
  • Necessary replacement of AC adapters to resolve "insufficient power" and "cannot identify power source" messages;
  • Necessary replacement of backplanes to solve "no power" or "shutdown" problems.

In order to claim from Dell a full refund of the amount paid for "Eligible Repairs", the owner of a Dell Inspiron 5150 must, on or before December 31, 2007, send Dell the claim form including his or her name, address and service tag number (located on the underside of the laptop), as well as a copy of the dated repair receipt.
