More than $110,000 raised during theOption consommateurs

Montreal, March 26, 2021 - More than $110,000 was raised atOption consommateurs 's fundraising event, held yesterday under a new format of virtual conferences featuring a dozen experts.

The event enabled some 150 participants to learn more about the impact of COVID-19 on consumers, while supporting the organization whose mission is all the more important in these difficult times.

Panelists discussed globalization and buying local, personal finance and access to justice. Canada's Privacy Commissioner, Mr. Daniel Therrien, rounded off a most instructive day with a lecture on the ways in which the pandemic has affected the privacy of Canadians.

The event also saw the presentation of the Option consommateurs awards, which recognize two individuals for their outstanding contribution to the defence of consumers and the vulnerable. Christine Morin, full professor at Université Laval's Faculty of Law, and John Lawford, Executive Director and General Counsel of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) in Ottawa, are this year's winners. Simon Jolin-Barrette, Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection, also offered a few words at the opening ceremony.

Option consommateurs would like to sincerely thank Belleau Lapointe, the main partner of this event. The organization would also like to acknowledge the contribution of its major partners: the Chambre de la sécurité financière, the Chambre des notaires, the Organisme d'autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ) and Sylvestre Painchaud et Associés.

The contribution of the event's associate partners - Municonseils, Conseillers affaires publiques, Office de la protection du consommateur (OPC), Union des producteurs agricoles, Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) and Insurance Bureau of Canada - was also essential.

Finally, the organization would like to express its gratitude to all participants and donors whose contributions are essential to the success of this fundraising day. The funds raised during this event will enable Option consommateurs to pursue its mission of helping consumers and defending their rights.
