Money for you in 2025!

There may be money waiting for you in 2025. Since last year, the federal and provincial governments have made changes to some of the credits, allowances and benefits available to you. As a result, you may receive a little more money this year.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
Canada child benefit

Monthly, based on income, age, and number of children. This allowance will be indexed in the coming year. The amount of this allowance will be $350 for children under the age of 6 and $295 for children aged 6 to 17. Therefore, if you are eligible, you may receive:

  • $7,787 per year for a child under the age of 6
  • $6,570 per year for a child aged 6 to 17

Canada Workers Benefit

3 times a year (July 12, October 11, January 10), depending on income.

The amounts you may receive are adjusted for the period from July 2025 to June 2026:

  • Up to $1,518 if you are single
  • Up to $2,616 if you are a couple
  • For people with disabilities, a maximum supplement of $784 is available.

Canadian Dental Care Plan

The plan is now available to all Canadians with an adjusted family net income of up to $90,000 and no dental insurance coverage. You'll find this "adjusted family net income" on line 23,600 of your federal income tax return. The plan has been improved for 2025:

  • For dental services, the maximum annual reimbursement will increase from $2,500 to $3,000.
  • For orthodontic care, the lifetime maximum will increase from $2,500 to $3,000.
  • For major restorative procedures, the reimbursement rate will increase from 50% to 65% for eligible expenses.

Renovation assistance for housing an elderly or disabled relative

Available as a 15% refundable tax credit on your federal income tax return, covering up to $50,000 in eligible expenses.

Canada Disability Benefit regulations

Available monthly, starting in July 2025, for working-age individuals with disabilities and modest incomes.

Canada Pension Plan

For the period from January to March 2025:

  • There will be no increase in Old Age Security benefits for people aged between 65 and 74. Each year, in January, April, July, and October, the amounts are revised based on the consumer price index for the previous three months.
  • People aged 75 and over can receive a maximum of $800.44 per month, with a 10% increase. This amount may be higher if you are eligible for the Guaranteed Income Supplement.

PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT
Solidarity tax credit

The number of payments depends on the amount to be received. This amount varies depending on your status (single or couple), income, and place of residence. This credit, commonly known as the "solidarity credit," is based on three components: the amount for the QST refund, the amount for housing, and a special amount for people living in a northern village. On average, the amounts granted for these three components have been increased by 2.88%.

  • Up to $1,256 per year for a single person, if you do not live in a northern village.

Family Allowance

Paid four times a year (January, April, July, October), varying based on income, with an average indexation of 2.85%.

  • Minimum of $1,196
  • Maximum of $3,006

Supplement for the Purchase of School Supplies

Annual Supplement

  • This annual financial assistance of $124 per child aged 4 to 16 (as of 30 September), for the 2025-2026 school year, is intended for all families who receive the Family Allowance payments, regardless of their family income. The beneficiary must have custody of the child for the month in which the Supplement is paid.
  • For the 2025-2026 school year, the payment will be made in July 2025, at the same time as your Family Allowance payment.

Shelter Allowance
  •  You may be eligible for the shelter allowance program for the period from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025, if you meet all the requirements.

Social Assistance Program

Monthly increase of 2.89%.

  • The basic annual benefit for welfare recipients will rise from $9,144 to $9,408, an increase of $264 for individuals. This represents a monthly amount of $784.

  • Work Premium Tax Credit for low-income earners, depending on whether you are single, in a couple, or have children. An increase of approximately 2.88% has been applied for 2025.
    From $1,185.52 to $3,983.50 per year, depending on your status.

Québec Pension Plan

People aged 65 and over will receive an average of $430 more per year (depending on age and income).

  • 2.6% increase
  • This increase also applies to the surviving spouse's pension, disability pension, pension for the child of a disabled contributor, and orphan's pension.

  • For a fourth consecutive year, the cost of a driver’s license remains low for those with no demerit points, at $26.25.
