Montreal, March 29, 2019 - Option consommateurs took advantage of its benefit evening, held yesterday at La Scena in Montreal's Old Port, to celebrate its 35th anniversary. Over 125 guests turned out to support Option consommateurs. They were treated to a gourmet meal concocted by chef Hakim Chajar.
During the evening, Option consommateurs highlighted the exceptional work of two people in the field of consumer protection.
The first recipient is Pierre-Claude Lafond, full professor at the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Law. Mr. Lafond is also a member of the Bar, a mediator in civil and commercial matters, and President of the Fondation Claude-Masse. Throughout his career and his social commitments, Mr. Lafond has imbued his work with great humanity. He has distinguished himself through his exceptional teaching skills, as well as his many works that have advanced consumer law and improved access to justice.
The second recipient is François Décary-Gilardeau, Director of ACEF - Appalaches-Beauce-Etchemin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Union des consommateurs and Treasurer of the Fondation pour les consommateurs. Present in five MRCs, ACEF - ABE is a key player in the southern Chaudière-Appalaches region. Recently, it has been at the forefront in the fight against dishonest travelling salesmen, who have victimized hundreds of people over the years. Option consommateurs would like to highlight Mr. Décary's daily actions and involvement with consumers in this region.
The recipients were seated at the head table. Also at the table were Lucie Lecours, MNA for Les Plaines and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Justice (consumer protection), Marie-Claude Champoux, President of the Office de la protection du consommateur, Daniel Belleau, partner at Belleau Lapointe, Nadine Lindsay, President and CEO of the Organisme d'autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec, Pierre Craig, journalist and former host of La Facture, and Maya Raic, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Quebec Real Estate Association. Funds raised during the event will enable Option consommateurs to pursue its mission of defending consumer rights. She would like to thank the evening's main partner, Belleau Lapointe.
