Enjoy your vacation without breaking the bank

Whether we’re talking about spring break, summer vacation or the holiday season, the vacations are supposed to be a time to rest and recharge. However, they can also be a time of stress, especially financially.

Here are a few tips to help you plan your next break so that you can truly relax with peace of mind.

Before determining which projects or activities will occupy this period, it is essential to evaluate the amount of money you will have available. To do this, you can use our budget worksheet. This tool will also help you save the amount you need for your next vacation. By saving a small amount each week, you will gradually accumulate the amount you want for next year!

Remember that vacations should be planned according to the surplus you have in your budget and never according to the available credit. Vacations and debt are not a winning combination!

Let’s take the example of a family of 4 that spends $500 for 2 days of camping on a site offering family activities. If the payment is made with your credit card and you only pay the minimum payment each month, it will take you 5 years and 10 months to erase this debt. In addition, interest charges will add $297.69 to the cost of your getaway. In total, this trip will have cost $797.69 instead of the $500.00 it was supposed to cost.* It’s a good thought!

Once you determine how much money you have available for your vacation, make a list of activities or projects you want to accomplish. Estimate the cost of each activity or project on your list and make sure the total is within the amount you have available from your budget surplus.

As we all know, we can spend quickly on vacation! It is therefore always a good idea to store around and compare prices. Look for promotions!

Don’t forget that vacations don’t have to be expensive! As long as it allows you to get out of your routine and spend quality time with the ones you love, it’s mission accomplished!

Have a great vacation!
